A little air conditioner maintenance can go a long way

Whether your home’s air conditioning system is new or old, maintenance is a key to keeping it operating efficiently. Air filters need to be changed, parts need to be lubricated, electrical components need to be checked. Many of these things a homeowner can do. However, by choosing one of our annual maintenance programs, you can be assured that everything that should be done will be completed properly by an air conditioning professional. This little bit of care could prevent major problems from occurring, and could extend the life of your home’s air conditioning system.

Avoid these air conditioning problems

Here are some simple things to do in order to avoid some of the most common air conditioning problems.

  • The air conditioning system will not start – Check the battery in your air conditioning unit. Just like batteries in a smoke alarm, if you have a battery-operated thermostat, these batteries do need to be changed. Be sure that all of the controls are set appropriately. If you have a separate humidistat control, be sure that control is set as it should be. Check the electrical breakers in the breaker box to be sure the breaker has not been tripped, or turned off.
  • There is moisture coming from the air conditioning system – If moisture is leaking from the vents of your system, check to be sure the return air vent has not been blocked, or is not clogged. Also, check the unit’s air filters to be sure that they are allowing air to pass freely. If there is moisture around the drip pan of the air handling unit, check the drip pan to see if the pan is full of water. If so, stop running the unit, and have a one of our air conditioning service technicians clear the drain hose for you.
  • The air is not cool when it comes out of the vent – Check the air filters. Clean air filters, and a free flow of air through the system are vital for the system to produce cold air. Also, check to be sure that debris has not accumulated around the condenser on the outside of your home. The condenser has to be cooled from a free flow of air in order to not overheat, and shut down.

The list above consists of some simple things that any homeowner could do which could help make a home air conditioning system run more effectively. If these hints do not help solve the problem, then go no further, and contact 1-800- Cold Air immediately!
