The importance of air conditioning to your family and your home!

Your home’s air conditioning system is one of its most important systems. Not only does the system keep your family cool through the heat of the summer, but by maintaining a constant temperature and humidity in your home, there is less stress placed on your home’s structure. The air filtration provided by the air conditioning system removes dust and pollen from the air, producing a healthier environment for you and your family.

Air conditioning problems that need to be recognized:

Like any mechanical system, problems will arise with your air conditioning system. It is always best to have these problems resolved as soon as you become aware of them.

  • Moisture – Through condensation within your air conditioning system, moisture is created. This moisture should be easily drained away through the collection pan that is located beneath your airhandling unit, and the drainpipes that are connected to that metal pan. Sometimes moisture problems do arise. On occasion, moisture is formed in the ductwork itself. This could be a problem with the design of the system, or ductwork not being adequately insulated. Excessive condensation would be a problem that would need to be addressed quickly to avoid damage to your home, as well as the possibility of creating an environment conducive to mold growth. The other commonly occurring moisture problem is when the drain lines from the metal catch basin become clogged. This allows the moisture to build up in the pan and eventually overflow, causing damage to flooring, ceilings, and walls.
  • Lack of air movement – If it seems that the air flow from the system’s vents has been reduced, either check the air filters within your system, or have them checked by a air conditioning company. Clogged air filters will do more damage than just reducing airflow. They will reduce the lifespan of the compressor, as well as not allow the system to cool air effectively.
  • Ice forming around the compressor – If your system shuts down, or will not blow cold air, oftentimes it is a sign that the compressor is not having sufficient airflow around the outside motor. Debris and leaves will gather around the compressor’s protective metal covering. The vents located in this covering must be kept open and clear so that enough air will circulate, allowing the compressor to cool, and there be an adequate flow of air.

The air conditioning maintenance programs offered by 1-800- Cold Air will you avoid these, and many other issues. Contact us today at 1-800- Cold Air!
